Latin Guitar or Conga Drums with Band

Guitarist Rodrigo thoroughly enjoys playing Latin music.

He also plays conga drums in a Latin rhythm band minus a guitarist.

Rodrigo, a Chilean born musician, specialized in classical guitar and Afro-Latin percussion for fifteen years.  He traveled extensible through Peru, Venezuela & Cuba studying traditional rhythms and the musical styles of those countries.

He performed in Chile, Argentina, USA and South Korea.  In Canada, he performed at The Banff Centre for the Arts, Ottawa's Museum of Civilization, Roy Thompson Hall and for the National Ballett of Canada.

He has participated in numerous recordings including CBC documentaries, Peter Smith Caliente & Cool Jazz CD, Kiran Ahlluwalia Indo-Pakistani contemporary music, Prologue to the Performing Arts CD, Jim Parker Children's Production On my street and Flamenco Spanish recordings.

Mi Camino, one of his compositions, was played in the TV series Nikita.  The same song is played for the Ontario Arts Council new promotion DVD on Artists in Education.

In the band, Rodrigo takes a new musical approach to Afro-Latin rhythms and popular music from Latin America, reflecting the colour and flavour of traditional and contemporary Latin styles: salsa, bolero and ch-cha-cha from Cuba, bossa nova and samba from Brazil, cumbia from Columbia, and also contemporary and mainstream jazz standards.

Band members include: singer - Orlando, trumpet - Alexander, trumpet - Reinier, piano - Orlando, bass - Fredy, timbales - Rosendo, congas - Rodrigo.

They also have a female lead singer who was away during the photo sessions.

Rodrigo currently tours Ontario and Quebec, conducting workshops on Afro-Latin rhythms, with support from the Ontario Arts Council and the different District Boards of Education.

He also performs in int'l festivals, special events, schools & universities.         X
