Pencil Portraits
Brian enjoys sketching portraits from 8 x 10 photos.
He has rendered several depictions including Mother Teresa, Queen Elizabeth, Patrick Watson, Walter Cronkite, Saddam Hussein, Dave Stieb, a younger version of Brian himself (1994) and a female friend from college days.
Saddam Hussein and Dave Stieb were sketched for separate newspapers. Hussein's PMT (photo mechanical transfer) appeared in a native newspaper criticizing his leadership and Stieb's PMT made the front page of a Christian newspaper reporting his conversion.
Stieb was reduced 25 percent for publishing and some readers said it seemed like a photo.
Regarding Mother Teresa, one observer commented, "This picture looks more like Mother Teresa than Mother Teresa does." (The comment came while she was still alive.)
Brian will reproduce any portrait (from an 8" x 10" detailed photo) in a black and white pencil rendering for $1,000. Animals can be reproduced for $500.
